Sauti Arts and Performance Management is a Botswana based organization that manages a selection of artists. We do this through securing corporate bookings for them to ensure some income from their art, but primarily we provide a community for like-minded artists where they can talk through their craft, its processes and source information on international programs that may be of use to them, as is necessitated by circumstance we apply for funding on behalf of artists.

We support local festivals or shows, mainly in kind, by providing artists or assisting with organisational capacity. In 2011 we recorded 12 Batswana poets and 4 musicians on 1 CD as a way to capture the current voices on the local literary scene.

In 2012 we hosted 7 poets from around the world and 4 local poets as part of the Poetry Africa tour; they ran workshops in local schools and gave a poetry and musical performance.

In 2013 in collaboration with the Swedish Arts Council we took 4 Batswana poets to Sweden on a poetry exchange and in return hosted 4 Swedish poets in Botswana. The poets ran writing and performance workshops in secondary schools.

In 2014 with the generous support of The African Poetry Book Fund and its partners, we opened Botswana’s first Poetry Reading Room, it is free to the public and contains over 300 contemporary titles. It is housed within the Gaborone Public Library.

In 2015 through partnership with the Sylt foundation(Germany) and Studio Revolt(Cambodia) we arranged a residency for one of our poets to shoot 2 videos in Phnom Pehn as well as give a reading.

A core principle at Sauti is legacy programming and to this end we always incorporate activities that integrate the writers’ work with skill sharing and documentation – through collaborations, workshops, school visits/talks, panel discussions, exchanges and recorded events with a focus on discussions as well as readings.
